Rumors have been going around the Internet this week about the state of Erin Wasson's RVCA line. Fashionista speculated that, while Wasson's contract was ending, the line would cease because the last collection got bad reviews. Today RVCA confirms in WWD that Wasson won't design another collection — the next of which would be for spring 2011 — for the label since her three-year contract ends December 31. "The term expires in between the development and go-to-market processes for [the spring collection], so both parties opted not to develop the season as part of our current agreement," Marketing director Brian Garofalow explains.
RVCA founder and creative director Pat M. Tenore further reinforced via e-mail that they weren't parting ways with Wasson because she's difficult and diva-like: "Rvca and Erin have not parted ways indefinitely. Erin is part of the Rvca family, and we hope to work with her on new collaborations in the near future." Wasson, who said she plans to focus on her jewelry line now that RVCA is over, also defended herself:
Wasson countered that “the fact of the matter is I wear many hats. I was also modeling, I was designing the [Low Luv] jewelry line, so it was always a situation of finding the right time to do everything. I’m extremely hands-on.”
Right. Never let anyone else design for you.
