Best Bet: Kaia House’s Ecochic Polishes

Nail polish has been one of the most buzzed-about accessories this summer, from beachy blues to shocking pinks. Now ecofriendly beauty brand Kaia House has arrived on the Lower East Side just in time to replenish your stash. Each of the 40-odd polishes is inspired by and named after a city: Dubai (second from right) is a glinting gold, Seattle (fifth from left) is a deep turquoise, and London is an iridescent, moody gray. The shades are all free of parabens, dibutyl phthalate (DBP), formaldehyde, and a slew of other synthetic chemicals — all helpfully listed on the back of the shop's business card. But compared to other non-toxic polish brands like Priti and Butter, these bottles are a fraction of the price.

$8 each at Kaia House, 9 Clinton St., nr. Stanton St., mezzanine level (646-861-3508) or online.
