Car Service Rescues Perplexed Dior Shoppers

The most chic, most confusing scaffolding on Fifth Avenue.

Dior's 57th Street boutique is under construction, and instead of marring the Fifth Avenue landscape with unsightly scaffolding, the boutique has shielded its façade with a gigantic Lady Dior bag-shaped barricade. Despite a very polite (and also very large) construction notice printed on the front of the bag, shoppers have still been showing up at the location with wallets in hand, according to a Dior representative. To avoid leaving customers out in the smelly, leather-marring 99 percent humidity that is Manhattan in August, Dior has arranged for a car service to shuttle them to the store's Madison Avenue boutique. A free, air-conditioned ride uptown? We'll take it!
