In a way it's good that Tyra Banks waited until the 14th season to bring Vogue's André Leon Talley onto the judging panel of America's Next Top Model. She managed to drag the show out in its former form, which didn't feel fashion serious at all, for that long before actually going high fashion and attracting the attention and excitement one would have thought she wanted all along. What was a drugstore mascara is now a $29 tube of eyelash wonderfulness that is worth every penny. The next season, which premieres September 8, boasts a stellar panel of guest judges, no doubt influenced by Talley to lend their expertise. They include designers Roberto Cavalli, Diane Von Furstenberg, Patricia Field and Zac Posen; photographers Matthew Rolston, Patrick Demarchelier, Francesco Carrozzini; models Karolina Kurkova and Margherita Missoni; and Italian Vogue editor Franca Sozzani. And don't forget next season's winner will get the cover of Italian Vogue. Dear friends and readers, it is with stunned emotion that we type the phrase we never thought we'd type: America's Next Top Model matters.
