Scotch & Soda Brings Dutch Style to Soho

Amsterdam-based brand Scotch & Soda landed in Soho last week, bringing an array of tweed blazers, dapper vests, checked button-downs, and fall coats for men and women. This is the company’s first U.S. store, as well as the exclusive retailer of the women’s collection until January, when the line will launch wholesale.

The clothes call to mind an upgraded Abercrombie & Fitch, with printed tees scribbled in French, casually chic blazers, and distressed sweats. The company takes pride in its craftsmanship, including details like reverse cuffs, embellished collars, subtle beading, and accent hardware. Perhaps our favorite offerings are what the brand calls “value” pieces. In effect, the shop does the styling for you, layering a knit vest and blazer; a men’s tee and loose-knit sweater; or a tank top, shirt, and skinny belt, then selling the multiple pieces together as a reasonably priced set. The women’s selection offers a welcome mix of cozy cardigans, slouchy khakis, and silks, but we were particularly impressed with the men’s offerings: Though S&S can get a bit carried away with the added flair — star-print popped collars, leopard-print pajama bottoms — their blazers and button-downs are well-made staples.
