When Pheobe Philo took her job as creative director of Celine, she was glad that the label's reputation had dwindled. "Celine certainly didn't mean very much to me. When I was deciding whether or not to take the job at Celine, I didn't really look at the history of the house. I had other offers to come back but they weren't right, or they wouldn't let me stay in London, which was non-negotiable. But this would, and I liked the fact the name didn't stand for anything any more...it's really not relevant to me what Celine has been or where it has been. It will be whatever I make it for the time I'm there."
