Dutch model Daphne Groeneveld is the bee's knees. Never mind that she's just 15 years old: The precocious teen has been working at a breakneck speed since she was discovered late last year. Like Jourdan Dunn and many other top models, Groeneveld was spotted while shopping with her mother in the Netherlands. At the fall 2010 shows, the ballet dancer got her heels wet on the Giorgio Armani and Versus runways. Then came her major breakthrough via the Prada/Miu Miu camp, joining Lindsey Wixson as one of Miu Miu's newest faces. When she flew to Paris, Groeneveld met with two other tastemakers, Carine Roitfeld and Riccardo Tisci. After modeling exclusively for Givenchy couture's fall 2010 presentation, Tisci heralded Groeneveld as the next Lara Stone. With her monthly editorials in French Vogue (keep an eye out for next month's issue, too), and her newly minted runway must-have status (opening for Calvin Klein's spring 2011 show), there ain't no stopping this one from reaching the very top.
How did you get discovered?
I was shopping with my mom at De Bijenkorf, a big department store in the Netherlands, when Anneriet (my Dutch agent) approached me. She asked me if I had ever thought about modeling, which I had not really. Because she was so enthusiastic she convinced me to give it some thought and do a test shoot. That was the beginning of a nice adventure!
Did you always love fashion and modeling? What made you interested in fashion?
I have always been interested in clothes and shopping, and sometimes I was dreaming about how it would be to be a model, but I never thought seriously that I would become one. What made me interested in fashion? Which girl isn't?
What do your family and friends think of your newfound success?
My family and friends are very proud of me and excited that I get all those fantastic jobs and work with all those great people in the fashion world. And although some people say there are a lot of mean people in this industry, all of the people that I have met are very nice and adorable people — really, really nice!
How do you stay grounded?
I think that staying grounded is part of the Dutch culture. What really keeps me going is when I see that people are satisfied with what I do, smiling designers, photographers, and stylists. And now that I have done some super-cool jobs, it tastes like more!
On your day off, what do you enjoy doing?
Shopping with my friends or seeing some scary movies with them — and for the rest [of the time], I wake up with music and go to bed with music, not a day without it!
What's your ultimate goal in modeling?
To be honest, I would not know. At this moment I enjoy every job I get and look forward to the next. And I have worked already for such great companies — unbelievable! But, when I would say what my big dream is? Doing a job on some Caribbean white beach, blue sea and palm trees!
Favorite thing about being a model?
I really love the traveling and going to all those nice places. Then I also enjoy working with other models, having a great time and a lot of fun at the scene or backstage. And last but not least, I get to wear all those beautiful clothes, that is really an honor
Worst thing about being a model?
The downside is that I have to miss most of my family and friends when I'm traveling, but thankfully, my mom always travels with me. And sometimes I need to wake up really early, but then again, that comes with the job
