Andrea Linett Is Going to Make eBay More Like Lucky [Updated]
Andrea Linett, the former creative director of Lucky who became eBay Fashion's creative director this week, first discovered the wonders of eBay five years ago when a disastrous photo shoot left her desperate for some retail therapy. As is the case when one is depression-shopping, she was certain that if she could just find that one perfect thing, everything would get better. And lo, she discovered a discontinued Hermès Medor watch on eBay, which she snagged for $495 (about a fourth of its original price). “I kept thinking, 'If I can just get this watch, it will be O.K.,’” she told the Times. And it was!
Linett plans to revamp the fashion section of eBay to make it look more magazine-like. Designers like Derek Lam have been tapped to do exclusive collections with the site (Lam's will be available this spring). Furthermore, there will be editorial content to help customers navigate pages and pages of stuff. According to Miriam Lahage, eBay Fashion's general manager, the site is currently “quite daunting ... If you are looking for footwear, there are more than 1.5 million pairs of shoes on eBay.” Hermès Medor watches are probably not so plentiful.
[Update: This post has been corrected from an earlier version in which Andrea Linett was misquoted.]
