Katie Holmes Is the New Face of Ann Taylor

The recession was so unkind to so many kinds of clothing, left to fester on the racks unworn and unloved. Office-mom clothes were among the most neglected, and so began the frantic rejuvinative journeys behind the walls of the stores that sell them — Talbots, Ann Taylor, and J. Jill. But perhaps no one ate, prayed, and loved harder than Ann Taylor, which has successfully repositioned herself as a decently on-trend store for decently on-trend people, and is enjoying the monetary fruits of those efforts. Meanwhile, Talbots can't surpass the identity crisis between eating that whole second pizza and having the flat stomachs society wants them to have, and can't enjoy the wonderful feeling of gaining weight and buying lingerie amid laughing fits on the floor of the dressing room. Don't they know that kind of thing makes you friends? Friends who shop? In addition to famous, hot friends, like Katie Homes? At least Ann Taylor understands.
