Yesterday, in what may have been Jen Kao’s most impressive runway show yet, the designer exhibited her affinity for threading together several hot trends to create one seamless look. And while pairing a large ombré fur overcoat with a bright printed minidress, metallic tights, and super platforms may have done the job we endlessly aspire to do (shield off the men), it wasn’t until the Wild West took a walk down the dark runway that we rejoiced in certainty.
With its fringed flare suede legs and horizontally striped upper body buttoned up high, it seemed the only missing factor in this look was a metal ascot. It should be noted that the V-shaped trim on the shirt that pointed toward the model’s nether regions quite accurately suggested she knows what’s coming, or what isn’t.
In any case, this particular look is one we can’t wait to emulate, so let us come together and sing Jen Kao’s praises while the men beg that we unbutton a few buttons, tuck in our shirts, and try with all our might to remove the Wild West–inspired fringe on our awesome pants.
Sorry, though. In the fight between companionship and having our shins sway back and forth with every step we take, the latter will obviously win. Always.
