It's been a figure-skater-heavy Fashion Week so far. First, we saw Johnny Weir at Chris Benz, then Johnny Weir and Olympic gold medalist Sarah Hughes hobnobbing at Alice + Olivia. Then, today, we spied last year's Olympic champion Evan Lysacek at Vera Wang. What's next? Is Michelle Kwan going to be working the front of house at Michael Kors?
Evan looked quite dapper in a slim-cut suit complete with pocket square and was — we cannot tell a lie — incredibly polite to the press, even apologizing to us when one particularly nutty reporter pushed us out of the way to get to him first. But we finally got our turn, at which point Evan told us that he always comes out to support Vera — with whom he appears very close, and who famously designed his costumes when he was skating competitively. In fact, Friday will be the one-year anniversary of Evan winning his Olympic gold medal in Vancouver, which he did wearing Wang. We wondered if he would be doing anything special — if it were us, we'd wear the medal all day long, and perhaps taunt people. "Friday is a big day for me," Evan said modestly, and then confessed that he's celebrating by performing in the opening night of Stars on Ice. Dude, last time we checked, that didn't necessarily preclude trash-talking. We're just saying.
And like Weir before him, Evan confirmed to us that he might be back in competition mode soon. "Oh, yeah. Absolutely. I'm leaning toward it," he nodded. Sounds like Vera better get ready to get back to the drawing board. And we had better get ready for Weir vs. Lysacek: The Sequel. Maybe, since they're both fashion fans, we can convince them to warm up for it with a walk-off. We're pretty sure people would buy tickets for that one.
