Riccardo Tisci’s Visionaire Issue Costs $495
The next issue of Visionaire is guest-edited by Givenchy's Riccardo Tisci, who chose "religion" as its theme — fashion-worship, to be specific. Explains the press release:
If you don’t believe that fashion is a religious sect unto itself—and a fast-growing one at that—well, maybe you should pray a little harder. Need you be reminded that today’s most awe-inspiring transfigurations are achieved by supermodels, not saints? (Easy to confuse the two, granted.)
The Catholic-born Tisci convinced a few of his fashion friends — Carine Roitfeld, for one, who let Karl Lagerfeld photograph her with lace over her mouth — to reenact various biblical scenes for photo spreads. Giovanna Battaglia styled Tisci muse Lea T as a martyr (one clad in Renaissance-style couture, of course), and Lara Stone got lashed to a burning cross and photographed by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott. Finally, Tisci's own portrait shows him suckling at the breast of performance artist Marina Abramovic. (Good lord, indeed.) This whole book comes bundled up in a wooden box, meant to evoke an altarpiece, and costs $495.
