The Times’ Critical Shopper Is Tired of Hat Abuse in the Lower East Side

This week's "Critical Shopper" column by Jon Caramanico opens with a bare-headed manifesto: "I didn't believe in hats even before every third underslept scruffster on the Lower East Side began abusing them. To me, they seemed to be the worst sort of peacocking, lazy and under thought, a mark of amateurism more than anything else, and almost uniformly detrimental. In winter, too, I leave my head uncovered — falling snow is no excuse to live in a cage." Spoiler alert, though: by the end of the article, he's changed his mind. (Hats always win out in the end.)
