Over the course of three public appearances this past weekend, Kate Middleton brought out eight pieces of her wardrobe for the ever more frenzied fashion press (guilty as charged). And she's worn at least six of them before! How thrifty of her.
On Saturday, she joined the Royal Family on Buckingham Palace's balcony for the Trooping the Colour ceremony, where she spent much of her time dealing with a giggle fit. (We think it's because poor Wills's furry hat fell down during the parade.) Duchess Kate wore a tailored ivory Alexander McQueen jacket with sculptural pleats at the waistline. It's the first time she's worn McQueen since that wedding gown — it's also her first time on the Palace balcony since her and Wills's post-nuptials kiss. She added a black hat, which she also then wore to a friend's wedding later that afternoon along with a geometric-print cocktail dress she'd worn previously on a night out with sister Pippa in 2007, minus the wide belt she'd accessorized with on that occasion. To avoid a potentially awkward photo op, Pippa wore something new.
On Sunday, Kate attended a church service celebrating her grandfather-in-law Prince Philip's 90th birthday wearing another wardrobe retread, a blue coat she wore to a wedding in 2009 over the blue Zara dress she wore the day after her wedding. Her hat, which looked somewhat like a Star Trek spaceship with some flowers attached, was new.
As the queen is well known for reusing her favorite frock coats, hats, and of course, handbags, Kate is following in well-versed regal footsteps for sure. But let's hope we see more shiny new and extravagant outfits on her forthcoming tour of Canada.
