London Named the Number One Fashion Capital of 2011
For several years, New York was the world's number one fashion capital, according to Global Language Monitor, a Texas-based analytics group that tracks word usage trends on the Internet to establish who is number one at stuff. However, this year, New York must relinquish its spot to London, about which much more is being written thanks to Kate Middleton and Alexander McQueen, the label she wore to wed in and the designer whose work was remembered most momentously at the Met in a spectacular exhibit this summer (which a few sites are lobbying to have go on tour). London is up from third place, while other strong performers include Los Angeles, actually.
The top five global fashion capitals were rounded out by Paris at No. 3, then Milan and Los Angeles, while Berlin and Singapore broke into the top 10 for the first time since the survey began eight years ago.
However, these findings don't quite change the fact that Paris is still the number one fashion capital in the sense of it being the true capital of fashion, rather than the capital of fashion being discussed online. But yay for London having a moment and Kate being around!
