Designers Respond to Cathy Horyn; Why Are There So Many Basketball Players at Fashion Week?

Cristiano Ronaldo.

• Here are responses from some of New York's biggest designers who were left out of New York Times fashion critic Cathy Horyn's "must-see" list this season. Oscar de la Renta says, “It bothers me because I love my industry, and I love fashion ... I think fashion is something of beauty and it really makes me mad when someone writes about fashion in a bitter way.” [WWD]

• The Times's Eric Wilson is impressed by the attendance of basketball players at fashion shows this season. "Carmelo Anthony receives the gold star attendance award at Fashion Week for his efforts to outpace Chris Bosh, Amar'e Stoudemire and Dwyane Wade in the number of front-row seats scored at the weekend’s shows ... raising the important question of when, exactly, did basketball players become so stylish?" • Alexa Chung: "I like it when I’ve made the worst dressed page in a gossip mag because it means it’s like the best dressed in another context. I don’t want to dress like everyone else." [Fashionista]

• Up-and-coming designer Louise Gray: "I have one assistant and 10 interns. We'll get more in the run up to the show. There's just so much to do. I worked for Peter Jensen the whole time I was on the MA, doing hand embroideries for his collections, but I never did an internship like these kids. It's so hard, especially in London, to be able to afford to work for free. So I say: 'Come and do two days, or just figure it out with your schedule, around your schoolwork.' I'd prefer them to have their own thing. It's better for their mind. You have to want to work in fashion. God love, I don't know how people would do it if they didn't." [Independent UK]

• Forever 21 is selling a T-shirt for girls that says "Allergic to Algebra" on it. Progressive as always, that store. [Jezebel]

• Brad Goreski says it only takes him a few minutes to choose his outfit, even during Fashion Week. [Stylelist]

• Sessilee Lopez walked in Zac Posen's show despite spraining her ankle at a photo shoot the day before: "I’m still planning on wearing heels for the show—I sprained my ankle once before, early on in my career, and I know I can do it." In the meantime, she's on crutches. [Elle.com]

• Isaac Mizrahi got Christina Aguilera and Gwen Stefani confused, and thought it was Christina who's behind L.A.M.B. [NYDN]

• Jean Shrimpton, the sixties model famous for her collaborations with photographer David Bailey, claims he never paid her. [Telegraph UK]

• This is, even by America's Next Top Model standards, an epic promo for the upcoming all-stars cycle. [Fashin]

• After her fashion show on Sunday, Victoria Beckham went shopping with baby Harper. [InStyle UK]
