Erin Fetherston’s spring 2012 collection is all about “being happy and pretty,” the designer told The Cut on Friday night, and her signature flirty frocks, full of vivid prints and bright fabrics, were indeed quite cheerful. “I really embraced bold color this year — actually this is probably the most color I’ve ever put into a collection!” she said. Along with graphic and floral prints, butterfly patterns kept popping up throughout. Fetherston explained she was inspired by an image of Mia Farrow attending Truman Capote’s Black and White Ball circa 1966. “It was a masked ball,” she said. “And [Mia] had this incredible butterfly mask over her eyes and she was wearing this really chic and simple shift dress. The whole thing just felt so modern to me and that was my jumping off point — that put the idea of butterflies and clean silhouettes in my head.”
