With her traditional Greek features and freckled skin, 17-year-old Ros Georgiou is one of the more memorable faces we've met this season. Georgiou, whose mother is Dutch, originally debuted at the fall 2011 Céline and Dries Van Noten shows, but her spring 2012 Calvin Klein exclusive made her a face to watch. The nearly six-foot-tall model was a perfect fit on Milan's hard-to-book Marni, Versace, and Jil Sander runways. And when the shows wrapped, off she went to a shoot with Paolo Roveri for British Vogue. When we met with Georgiou amid her Calvin Klein fittings, the aspiring journalist opened up about what she'd like to change about the industry and what she misses most about Greece while traveling abroad.
You're the first Greek model we've met.
I know. I get that at every casting I go to. We only have two Greek models that do international work, but it's not high fashion. The famous Greek models are more commercial with boobs and swimsuits — Playboy playmate types. I hate that. I hope to change this soon.
What's one thing you have in Greece that you can't find in New York, Milan, and Paris?
Proper Greek food and the islands, the beaches, and the lifestyle. I love Greece!
Let's play favorites:
Musician: Radiohead, Neon Trees, Muse, FM Static.
Films: I'm a romantic when it comes to movies: Titanic and The Notebook are two of my favorites.
Books: I don't read so many books.
Foods: Greek food! Souvlaki and pastitstio, especially.
If you could change one thing about the industry, what would you change?
I know most of the people are nice, but everything is so last-minute. I think things should be more organized.
What's your diet like?
I don't do any dieting. I eat a lot. I used to play eight years' professional volleyball in Greece, but now that I model I don't have time to train so I try to go jogging three times a week.
What's in your purse right now?
My modeling book and high heels.
Chocolate, candy, everything and anything junk food.
Any beauty tips?
Nope, none. Just common sense: Sleep early and don't eat candy and all that stuff I just said I love to eat. I think exercising is good for not only your body, but your skin, too.
The Blonde Salad's blogger, Chiara Ferragni.
If not modeling, what would you be doing?
It's not that if I was modeling I would have done something else, but I want to continue studying, maybe going into journalism. I'm not sure what kind of journalism I want to do yet, as there are so many different avenues; I'm keeping an open mind. I still plan to achieve this even if I'm modeling.
Lastly, do you have any goals in modeling?
The cover of French Vogue, shot by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin. And I want to work with Steven Meisel; I know, I'm so predictable. I'd like to work with Katie Grand, too. I think they are the best in the industry.
