Monaco's new princess, Charlene Wittstock, wears Akris often. She even wore Akris to Kate Middleton's wedding to Prince William in the spring — her most important look next to her own wedding dress, obviously — and seeks advice from the designer, Albert Kriemler, about her outfits. Charlene's appearance in the front row of the Akris fashion show over the weekend, just one seat down from Anna Wintour, was momentous, because usually the famous people in the front row at fashion shows are publicity-seeking or contracted celebrities. Wittstock was merely taking a break from being princess. And with the show being Grand Prix–themed, she had a Monaco-related reason for being there, kind of.
Naturally, any princess these days will endure comparison to Kate Middleton, who can't go to fashion shows because she likes to make a great show of not being frivolous, even though, since her engagement to Prince William, she's been spotted out shopping more than she's been spotted doing any other recreational activity. The Telegraph spoke to Charlene at the show:
Would she ever go high street shopping like the Duchess of Cambridge, only recently spotted browsing through Topshop? "I wouldn't want to compare myself to her."
Why be Princess of Monaco, of all places, if you have to be cheap?
