• Neiman Marcus reported increased profits in the third quarter, with same-store sales up 8 percent. Executives cite, as a sign of that strength continuing into the pivotal fourth quarter, quick sales on many of the outlandish gifts offered in its annual Christmas book, including a $125,000 custom-built library courtesy of luxury book publisher Assouline.
