Last October, a wily shoplifter went to John Varvatos's Bowery boutique and swapped out his own jacket for a $3,600 coat from the store's racks. And he would have gotten away with it, if it weren't for a pesky ball of chewed gum he'd left in his old coat's pocket. Police took a DNA sample from the gum and found a match; the culprit has since been booked, reportedly, on grand larceny charges.
