There is no rest for the weary at Festival de Cannes. This weekend, the stars soldiered on, wearing their sequins and long, feathered trains despite some inclement weather. Diane Kruger walked the red carpet looking like a magnificent human sparkler, with her very best accessory, Joshua Jackson, on her arm; Mia Wasikowska made several appearances in bright, ladylike dresses; and Jessica Chastain posed for pictures with Tom Hardy and Tom Hardy's beard. See these looks and more in our weekend roundup.
It's always so awkward when you realize that Cannes and the Billboard Music Awards are not the same thing.
Jada Pinkett Smith
She looks like a futuristic Fruit Roll-Up.
We feel bad for any woman who has to appear on the same red carpet as Salma Hayek. Here she is wearing a beaded dress that probably weighs a ton, is cleary cutting off all air to her lungs, and is pretty ugly at the bottom, and she still looks ravishing.
Surprisingly, pairing an eighties wedding dress with those spike-covered heels all the Kardashians wore last year doesn't work.
Jessica Chastain and Tom Hardy
Jessica Chastain looks stunning. Most women wouldn't want to put a shining beacon of bling on their abdomen, but it works for her. Unfortunately, Tom Hardy's untamed beard does not work for him.
This is the kind of dress little girls dream of wearing. It's half Beauty and the Beast, half The Bachelorette finale.
Lily Cole and Pete Doherty
If you look really closely, you can see that he is wearing a dapper little pocket square —— really cleaning up his act! Lily Cole is trying her best not to look at all.
Naomi Watts looks beautiful, but honestly, her dress looks like that piece of cake you were saving to eat for the Law and Order: SVU marathon but kept in the fridge a day too long and it started to get moldy.
For a Cannes red carpet, this dress is very simple, but ultimately looks good on her. While the ruching at the waist is questionable (why do people insist on adding rolls of fabric and shiny things dangerously close to the love handle region?), the color suits her.
My God, what did she do to Elmo?
Yeah, we really wish you hadn't worn that Hawaiian shirt, either.
Aluminum foil has never looked so good.
Mia Wasikowska, again
Who let Mia Wasikowska out of the house looking like a tropical-flavored candy cane?
Oh ... that's who.
It was very nice of Shia to take time out to come to Cannes before he starts shooting True Life: I'm Joining the Mob for MTV.
Sadly, looking like a judge won't really help you with this kind of jury.
The mullet rears its nasty hem again. It looks a bit like she's wearing a ruby henna tattoo, but at least she looks good doing it.
Sarah Marshall and Jean Claude Jitrois
You might be confused by her need to accessorize her half-sheer, half-leather dress with thigh-highs, but once you notice that he is wearing a fitted leather tuxedo jacket, you realize it's perfect.
Who knew Angelina Jolie's leg was making red-carpet appearances?
Admit it, you were a little worried that Phoebe Price had gone M.I.A. But have no fear, she just spent an extra long time deciding which sequined tuxedo jacket would match her Lisa Frank maxi dress the least.
