Nick Axelrod is leaving his post as senior fashion news editor of Elle magazine to partner with Emily Weiss on her beauty website, Into the Gloss. He begins his new post as editorial director on Monday, June 11. His move is a major coup for Weiss, who started the website in September 2010 as a side-project on top of her job as an assistant to Vogue contributing stylist Elissa Santisi. Now, Weiss says, the site is expanding rapidly: “Besides ramping up daily content, we’ll be launching a newsletter, adding new features, contributers, and components, and continuing to develop video,” she tells us via e-mail.

Axelrod and Weiss met five years ago as newly hired assistants at WWD and W, respectively, when the two publications were across the hall from one another. His new position will involve overseeing editorial content and brand partnerships as well as working with the site’s digital director, Michael Harper, to develop new business. “I so admire what Emily’s done with ITG so far, and now it’s time to really go big,” he says. For a senior magazine editor to leave a secure job for a relatively new start-up website speaks volumes of ITG’s future plans; we look forward to seeing what develops.
