The question of the night at The Cut's launch party on the roof of the NoMad Hotel: Do you have a Google Alert for your name?
"Yes, of course, are you crazy?" designer Michael Bastian exclaimed. "I even have misspellings of my name as a Google Alert. I read every one of them. I Google every morning: past 24 hours, sort by date." Asked if he remembered the last time The Cut wrote about him, one of Bastian's friends interjected, "I think it was about 'Michael Bastian likes hairy legs.'"
Man Repeller Leandra Medine says "it's better not" to self-Google. Designer Alice Temperley agrees. Noted fashion photographer Nigel Barker receives Google Alerts every day at midnight and finds himself tempted to comment on posts about him: "Sometimes I am almost there. I have definitely opened it up, written something, and then gone, no I can’t do that."
Coco Rocha told us the "little secrets" she'd reveal if she were a blogger: "That I had 58 babysitters when I was little, and that my mom has every September Vogue since I was born." Yigal Azrouël runs outdoors for Fashion Week stress relief, while stylist Mary Alice Stephenson offered a litany of advice for avoiding self-hate during Fashion Week. "Get a great mani-pedi in a cool color. It is cheap and it looks good," she said. "Have a 'wow' moment from the waist up. At the parties, everyone sees from your waist up."
Unless, of course, you're posing on The Cut's step and repeat, where all photos are head-to-toe.BEGIN SLIDESHOW
