Last spring's samourai-inspired Balenciaga collection was such a hit that its theme has carried over into this season, most notably in the menacing shape of wing-shouldered vests and tops at Rodarte, Marni, and Alexander Wang. Meanwhile, the Gianfranco Ferré show was full of shogunate elements like vests and wide trousers, supplemented by other Japanese touches like plush striated cotton bodices and bra tops, pleated origami-like organdy, and hakana stiff belts looped just so.
