Best Bet: Robert Wilson Painted Steel Chair

When designer-curator Murray Moss shuttered his eighteen-year-old Soho design boutique back in February, New York aesthetes mourned the loss of a shop that singularly showcased bronze sculptures and mid-century lamps alongside modern sofas and unglazed Nymphenburg porcelain. Now high rollers determined to own a part of this art-meets-design legacy can fight it out at Phillips de Pury & Company’s (450 Park Ave., nr. 57th St.; 212-940-1300) public auction on October 16, where each piece will correspond to a work of art (also for sale). This painted steel chair by Robert Wilson (selected to match Marcia Grostein’s sculpture With You Alone) is estimated to sell for $10,000 to $15,000. Sound a bit steep? The Moss-curated collection will be on view through October 15 (Monday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday noon to 6 p.m.) for those who prefer to browse without buying. Plus Chanel fine jewelry, a desktop jellyfish tank, and more new stuff in this week’s issue. [NYM]
