Carine Roitfeld, who launched her new biannual magazine CR Fashion Book just last month, has joined Hearst Magazines as the new global fashion director of Harper’s Bazaar. This is a coup for the publication, who snagged her via creative director, Stephen Gan, who has longstanding ties to Roitfeld: He’s the design director of CR as well as the president of Fashion Media Group, which publishes CR as well as V, Visionaire, and VMAN. (Roitfeld told us recently that Gan is her “best friend.”)

Hearst issued a press release about Carine’s new position this morning, stating that Roitfeld will collaborate with Gan on “several stories a year,” starting in the March 2013 issues of all 26 international editions of Harper’s Bazaar. Their work will span editorials as well as some covers. Just as Gan runs his own publications on top of his job at Harper’s Bazaar U.S., Roitfeld will continue working on CR. Also of note: Roitfeld parted with Condé Nast under reportedly contentious circumstances, so it’s not surprising that she’s headed to their top rival.
