Get Ready for Black Thursday

25 Nov 2011, Glenview, Illinois, USA --- epa03014629 Black Friday shoppers fill the aisles at a Target department store as they seek Christmas specials in Glenview, Illinois, 25 November 2011. Black Friday traditionally kicks off the holiday shopping season and gets its name from the day that most businesses target as the day they first turn a profit for the year. Retailers such as Target, Lord & Taylor, and Gap have decided to stay open for Thanksgiving, turning Turkey Day into Black Thursday and facing the "backlash of traditionalists who believe the holiday should belong to families, feasts and football," according to WWD. Wal-Mart employees are particularly unhappy with the decision and have started a number of petitions. Sadly, it probably won't change the minds of retail executives, as stores that opened earlier last year reportedly saw sales increase by 22 percent over the holiday weekend.
