Last night, the third-annual WGSN Global Fashion Awards made the leap from New York to London, with Victoria Beckham and Kim Jones among their 2012 winners. The highest honor of the night, the Hall of Fame award, went to fashion photographer Rankin, while Beckham got the CATRICE Womenswear Designer award, with the judges commenting that “this is her year.” (Sadly, she and her sparkly microphone weren’t able to make it, and senior vice-president Zach Duane collected the trophy on her behalf.)
The event was hosted by Cat Deeley at the Savoy, the fancy Art Deco hotel where Roksanda Ilincic recently showed her spring 2013 collection. Attendees included Hilary Alexander, Bruno Basso, Christopher Brooke, Bora Aksu, Eudon Choi, and Charlotte Dellal (who pledged her allegiance to WGSN with some very cute shoes, and to milliner Marie Mercié with a crazy hat, which she pulled off with aplomb. Seriously, look at the hat).
Awards founder and director Lauretta Roberts told the Cut that the plan had always been to move the awards around the globe, despite two successful years in New York. “London was the obvious choice for 2012, but New York was the perfect global launch pad for us and I’m sure we’ll be back,” she explained. Maybe, but we’re putting our money on China for 2013.
