It’s always a toss-up when a high-fashion designer tries their hand at mass market. Outfits that look so beautiful in top-of-the-line materials often lose their oomph when produced with cheaper fabrics and technology. So it’s a great relief to see Prabal Gurung, one of the New York fashion world’s most beloved designers, manage to create a capsule collection for Target that looks very much like his vibrant, exotic ready-t0-wear clothing, only slightly simpler.

Working with his trademark florals, fluttery silhouettes, kaleidoscopic prints, and mesh paneling, Gurung developed a vibrant range of collared blouses, pleated skirts, crisp blazers, ruffly dresses, and cute colorful shorts. “I like my collections to have femininity, with just a little bit of bite,” he explains in this video, provided exclusively to the Cut, which demonstrates different ways to style the clothes. The outfits have a high-fashion vibe, but are definitely more wearable than his runway looks.

“It was an exciting challenge to interpret my aesthetic into a mass-produced product, but the collection is true to my signature style,” Gurung added later in an e-mail. Inspired by “a girl’s journey through the different stages of love,” this collection marks his first large-scale collaboration, but it definitely won’t be his last. “I am a strong believer that collaborations are important to remaining fresh and relevant,” he said. Priced from rom $19.99 to $199.99 for apparel and $12.99 to $39.99 for jewelry, handbags, and shoes, the items will be available from February 10 through March 23 (or while supplies last) at all Target stores and online.
