Kristen Stewart got the honor of debuting the Louis Vuitton spring 2013 collection off the runway, wearing a checkerboard romper to a Twilight event in Tokyo just weeks after it was shown in Paris. So quick was she to secure the piece that no one else got their hands on the spring line for months (it’s likely that Stewart wore a sample from the fashion show). Anyway, the checkerboards finally elbowed their way back into our consciousness a few weeks ago, starting with Hailee Steinfeld at her 16th-birthday party in late December and continuing with Kerry Washington, Jessica Alba, and Kristen Stewart over the past week. They also showed up on the January cover of French Elle, worn by Kate Upton. This may wind up being one of the most popular of the spring collections, editorial-wise, as it’s high-impact, easily recognizable, and still very wearable. Get ready to see lots more of it over the next few months, despite Marc Jacobs’s ambivalence toward red carpets.
