Is Girls, the HBO sitcom in which Lena Dunham and her friends play approximations of themselves, not real enough for you? Maybe you'll enjoy this forthcoming reality television series based on Girls, from an Emmy-winning production studio. Maybe you'll star in it! From the Craigslist want ad (published in full after the jump):
"The real life television show we are making follows the trials and tribulations of an ensemble of wise-beyond-their-years young ladies. We are with you living the dream in hipster Brooklyn and lower Manhattan. Only well educated and cultured extroverts need apply. Are you thinking about that show — "Girls?" Well we didn't say it but. . ..now that you mention it."
I'm thinking there's a good reason there hasn't already been a reality television series about well-educated and cultured extroverts living the hipster dream, and it's that they're all too self-serious, solipsistic, and creative to submit to some corporate hack's cheaply edited version of their life. Except maybe as a kind of performance art piece for a final in a fine arts class they slacked off on. If they wanted to be famous they'd just borrow some money from their parents and make and star in a movie or web series about a slightly fictionalized version of their life. In fact, they already did. That's how we got Girls.
Anyway, the ball's definitely in Dunham's court now. She's already set the precedent for responding to her critics with Sandy the black Republican boyfriend. Now's the time to get Marnie in a Gallery Girls–type program for her next pretty person job.
