Lots of News Outlets Name Steubenville Victim

Raw Story reports that Fox News neglected to censor the name of the 16-year-old Steubenville rape victim. So did lots of other outlets, it turns out, including MSNBC and CNN*. She was named during this footage (since bleeped) of Trent Mays’s tearful courtroom apology for taking and distributing pictures of her. (Which didn't quite cover the full extent of his transgression, did it?) In previous stories, FoxNews.com was careful to redact both the name and the names of the defendants, who had by then been named in most media outlets. This odd concern for the rapists — “promising” “star football players” whose lives are "ruined" — has not gone unnoticed. A Change.org petition to CNN to apologize for appearing to sympathize with the convicted young men has garnered more than 50,000 signatures.
