Julia Restoin-Roitfeld's new website for moms and dads, which she described back in February as "glamorous and artistic," officially launched this morning. Named "Romy & the Bunnies" after Julia's 10-month-old daughter, the site's homepage currently features a lovely watercolor illustration of the mother and child in repose, with Julia smiling and tousled while her clean, quiet baby sleeps on her bare shoulder.
Most of the site's Goop-like sections — "beauty," "must-haves," and "features" — don't have content yet, but the "about" page states its purpose:
On May 15, 2012, I gave birth to my daughter, Romy Nicole. Immediately I was exposed to a new world — the one of motherhood. Yet, in this rewarding new life, I faced the challenge of finding a publication that spoke to me as a mother determined to retain her sensuality and femininity. Motherhood should not signal the end of these things. Rather, it should heighten them. With this as my inspiration, I decided to share my discoveries with other women.
Currently, the site's only story is a beautifully photographed interview with New York–based mom Latham Thomas, a "maternity lifestyle maven, wellness and birth coach, and yoga teacher" who has written a book about maternity health. She says she drank a lot of green juice during her pregnancy, a time when most women take carte blanche to catch up on all the new Ben & Jerry's flavors they haven't tried.
It'll be interesting to see how this nascent project develops. On the one hand, it's inspiring to see these beautiful women make motherhood look so graceful and pretty; on the other, do new or expectant moms really need another thing to make them feel guilty about getting fat, losing sleep, and not feeling sexy?
