Obesity Has a Scent

"It turns out that obesity may be detectable as a gas, thanks to organisms that inhabit our gut," Time reports in an article entitled "Can You Smell Obesity?" Eau de Obesity is in the breath of obese people, although so far only scientific instruments have been able to pick up the heavier-than-average notes of methane and hydrogen gases. The chemical variations are on the order of parts per million, which is too small for the human nose to register, though dog noses operate on that level. Then again, with those highly trained French perfumers, who knows.
