The Met Gala Live Stream Should Be Much Better Than Last Year’s

Last year, the Met Gala red carpet was live-streamed for the very first time. This was a long overdue development, as the Oscars arrivals have been streamed for years and it was high time the Met (fashion’s Oscars!) caught up. But some may recall that the live stream’s maiden voyage was a bit shaky. Sometimes the sound was off, or the feed cut out, and the resolution was poor. It was as though the cameras themselves had been starving all day, stuffed into uncomfortable shoes, and desperately needed a cocktail. But it was still better than nothing, and Vogue’s co-hosts, William Norwich and Elettra Wiedemann, did an admirable job pretending to be fascinated by celebrities’ mundane quotes about shoes.

Anyway, this year’s promises to be better! Wiedemann has been replaced by model Hilary Rhoda, and Norwich will reprise his hosting role, according to a press release from the museum. We can also expect better video and sound, as well as interviews with gala co-chairs Rooney Mara, Lauren Santo Domingo, Riccardo Tisci, and Anna Wintour. (Beyoncé’s name was notably absent from the Met’s list, but we still have hope.)

The ball is now less than two weeks away, which means invitees are making arrangements for their juice fasts and their gowns. Let the speculation about Kanye’s performance — and Kim Kardashian’s attendance — proceed.
