Street Style: Hats Are the Real Winners at the Kentucky Derby

On Saturday, nineteen horses (with jockeys on their backs) thundered down a wet track at Churchill Downs for the 139th Kentucky Derby, where thoroughbred horse Orb and his 28-year-old rider, Joel Rosario, were the first mud-caked duo to gallop past the finish line. Despite the inclement weather (a.k.a. spring showers) on the day of the event, attendees still drank their mint juleps and busted out their best selection of flamboyant head toppers and fitted dresses in every color of the rainbow to celebrate. The Cut sent photographer Andrew Kung to snap everything from feathered plumes and head-engulfing brims to mini hats demurely pinned to one side of the head. Most, if not all, of these hats featured flowers — which was fitting for the weather, as the rain conveniently watered them. As long as royals continue to get married and horses race in Kentucky, it appears that the fascinator will never die. Click through the slideshow for proof.
