The arrival of Kate and Will's royal baby boy made front-page news everywhere from Malta to Australia today. While no pictures of the little prince are available yet, papers had to get creative; most ventured a pun of some sort, with varying success. Wordplay with "heir" was a popular choice, as were predictable adaptations of "Oh, boy!" British tabloid the Sun arguably wins with their repurposed logo (see above); you just know they've been anticipating the opportunity to run that for months. Click through our slideshow to see royal-birth headlines from around the globe.
The Edmonton Metro, Canada
One of the many, many "Oh, Boy!" headlines.
The Daily Mail, London, U.K.
Prince Charles's sole front page shows him looking characteristically awkward. He was the first royal family member to release a statement last night, although he was been too busy touring meat factories in York to drop by the hospital until this evening.
The Times of London, U.K.
The Times went simple and classic for their "souvenir edition," which will no doubt be squirreled away by hoarders everywhere.
The Cape Times, Cape Town, South Africa
The befeathered royal crier >>> outdated photo of the duchess, big time. Check-plus, South Africa.
The Virgin Islands Daily News, U.S. Virgin Islands
Also more interested in the town crier than the duchess herself: the U.S. Virgin Islanders.
The Kleine Zeitung, Klagenfurt , Austria
Perhaps the only time a novelty onesie will make front-page news.
The Times of Malta
Kate's picture flanked by murders, meats, and medicines.
The Courier-Mail, Brisbane, Australia
One of the several "heir" jeu de mots.
The Calgary Sun, Canada
This one didn't work so well.
The Toronto Sun, Canada
This cover line is apparently a reference to the U.K. postal service, which took some Googling to figure out.
The Edmonton Sun, Canada
And this one isn't a play on words at all, just an excuse to sound ridiculous.
Mladá Fronta DNES, Prague, Czech Republic
The Czechs felt the baby's weight was most headline-worthy.
The New Zealand Herald
One of the headlines reads, "The royal romance, the succession — and the NZ connection," no doubt trumpeting New Zealand's role within the constitutional monarchy that counts Queen Elizabeth as their sovereign, and thus got to be part of the decision to change succession laws at the last Commonwealth summit in October 2011. (The new succession laws decree that the firstborn child of Will and Kate is third in line for the throne, regardless of gender.)
The Sydney Morning Herald, Australia
Not only was this the only paper to use this picture of Kate in her sassy spotted dress, they included a handy royal flowchart, too.
