Inspirations from Couture: 17 Pieces to Wear Now

With each haute couture season bringing a beautiful barrage of fanciful, costly pieces, it’s hard to imagine how couture can apply to our daily life. Instead of writing it off as another season of clothes that are out of our reach, we think that there’s a lot to learn from couture. The surprising mix of colors, textures, and shapes can be a fun styling rubric that challenges us to rethink the way we dress and imagine ourselves — even if it’s just in our heads. We were surprised by the shocking Schiaperelli pink against chartreuse green and black crepe or satin; or the unusual clash of colors and textures of navy satin and mint, vermilion and graphic houndstooth at Christian Dior. At Giambattista Valli, bright red and magenta silk blossoms with black velvet belts made us fall in love with white lace, organdies, and organzas all over again. So we took on the challenge of putting together outfits inspired by our favorite couture looks. Click on to see how we applied these runway lessons.
