Try Wearing Just One Earring

The surreal Christian Dior fall 2013 runway was filled with intricate dresses, meticulously detailed shoes, and one surprising finishing touch: models wearing just one gigantic earring. The oversize bauble was an avant-garde counterpoint to all of the lovely clothing and a refreshing break from the delicate piercings that have been popular lately. While on the hunt for my own version of the look, I came across Danish designer Maria Black’s jewelry collection, which includes statement earrings meant to be worn alone. The minimalist pieces feature styles that sweep up the ear and resemble cuffs, but it was this geometric design with chains that drew my eye. I picture wearing it with my hair gathered back, just like the ladies on the runway, although I would add my weird sci-fi hair comb to the finished look.

Maria Black D’ante gold-plated earring, $175 at Net-a-Porter.
