When she was brainstorming the manicures for Costello Tagliapietra's spring/summer show, Michelle Saunders of Essie was so taken by the collection's leather sandals that she based the whole look around the shoe. "It’s the hero of the collection," she said. "I think people will be paying close attention to the pedicure."
Saunders created a genius navy leather nail look to match the sandal. The base coat was a shimmery navy, Essie's Midnight Cami; then she layered a sheer pink, Mademoiselle, over it to remove the sheen of the first layer and brighten the navy hue (magic!). To get the leather effect, she finished off with a layer of Matte About You as a topcoat. Spring resolution: no open-toed shoes unless our nails resemble supple navy leather.
