Recreate the Perfect Low Ponytail From Jason Wu

The hair at Jason Wu, a sleek low ponytail with a precise center part, looked totally effortless — but we won’t be fooled again. Today we asked the magician behind look, Odile Gilbert, how to achieve the style at home.

To get the flawlessly straight center part (also seen on the grunge-inspired hair at Suno), Gilbert used a rat-tail comb. (Insider trick: Start with the comb at the tip of your nose and draw a path straight to your hairline to guide the part.) Next, she smoothed hair with a flat iron and added Kérastase Gloss Appeal shine spray. Then she slicked the hair down to the scalp using Short Mania pomade while gathering it into a ponytail, finishing with Laque Couture hairspray to prevent flyaways (all Kérastase). For Wu, she attached rose-gold barrettes for some added flair. “It sounds easy,” she said. “But even I get it wrong.” Well, it didn’t even really sound that easy, Odile.
