Sinéad and Miley Continue Forth Into the Void

The feud between Sinéad O’Connor and Miley Cyrus, less than a week old, already feels tired and soggy. It has been a-bubbling far too long. The pasta of our attention span turned from the perfectly primed al dente to mushy mush-mush. But on it boils. O’Connor just wrote her fourth letter to Cyrus. Below is a timeline in case you, justifiably, took a nap during any of these developments.

Initially, Miley said that her music video for “Wrecking Ball” was inspired by O’Connor.

So Sinéad wrote to Miley:

I am extremely concerned for you that those around you have led you to believe, or encouraged you in your own belief, that it is in any way ‘cool’ to be naked and licking sledgehammers in your videos.

Then Amanda Palmer wrote to Sinéad:

I love you …  although I think it’s tempting to imagine her in the board room of label assholes and management, I don’t think any of them masterminded her current plan to be a raging, naked, twerking sexpot. I think that’s All Miley All The Way.

Miley responded on her Twitter account:

“Before Amanda Bynes … There was …”

So Sinéad reared back with a second letter, with a how-dare-you-dare-to-respond attitude. It went like this:

Miley … Really? Who the f-ck is advising you? Because taking me on is even more f-ckin’ stupid than behaving like a prostitute and calling it feminism.

Then Sinéad wrote a third letter:

You can take five minutes today between g-string fuckin’ changes to publicly apologise and remove your abusive tweets. If you do not then you don’t give a shit who you mock and what damage you do by being so ignorant.

Miley went on television to talk with Matt Lauer about sex in your forties. Oh, and she also addressed the Sinéad business.

I don’t know how someone can start a fight with somebody who said, ‘Hey, I really respect you. And I really love what you what you did.’ That was kind of crazy.

This brings us to Sinéad’s most recent letter:

My problem with you stems from your response to my first letter.

Phew. Now we’re all on the same page, and wouldn’t you know it? We’ve all been invited to join this open-letter open season.
