You have an amazing relationship. You feel like you've known each other forever. It's like your souls are identical. You even complete each other's sentences! Like, every time you speak. It's wild.
Guess what? That person is you and you should be with you for the rest of your life. (Cosmo magazine phrases this in another way: "Sad and Single? Just Marry Yourself Already.")
Love yourself! No one can disagree with that. But what does it mean, really, if you commit yourself to yourself for the rest of your life, but you don't put a ring on it? Sounds kinda shady.
To solve this problem, a married couple (jewelry designer Jeffrey Levin and design strategist Bonnie Powers) founded I Married Me. Though they are Smug Marrieds, they promise that they ascribe to a love-yourself-first philosophy. Reportedly, at their own wedding, they made all of their 120 guests sit through a "self-marriage" ceremony. So delighted were they with this notion that they created something called Self-Wedding In-A-Box.
What does the SWIAB do? It fills the immense hole in your heart, which will exist until you get a ring on that finger. Here's Powers:
I think a lot of people have a void in themselves and they're looking to fill it. We're trying to remind people that they already have all that awesomeness inside …. It's one thing to think about yourself and say 'I know I'm special' but that doesn't always last. When life throws you stuff that isn't easy to deal with, you can [look at the ring and] remember, 'I'm solid, I'm good, I'm worthy.'
Your amorphous thoughts and confidence doesn't last. You know what lasts? A piece of metal and some affirmation cards.
For $300, you can get a box that contains one (rose, white, or yellow) gold ring. You take this ring and you thee wed.
The box also contains day-of-the-week affirmation cards, which are a thoughtful inclusion, because if you just bought a DIY-kit to marry yourself, you're probably not really sure what is up with your life right now.
