Here's an app worth the crowd-funding! TellSpec is a handheld spectrometer that scans food, measures the light that's reflected back, and uses an algorithm-based app to measure the qualities of the food — reporting back calorie count, potential allergens, chemical makeup, and more — in about 30 seconds. "Handheld spectrometer"? More like "pocket wizard," amirite?
Fast Company reports that Tellspec will retail for $150, and is about $4,000 away from the Indiegogo crowd-funding goal. And we're one step closer to knowing the caloric makeup of all the foods, all the time, and then ignoring that information, and eating them anyway.
