Here’s a new way to get publicity for your TV series: create online dating profiles for the characters. In a somewhat clumsy advertising ploy, The Mindy Project appears to have created Tinder profiles for various characters on the show, including creator and star Mindy Kaling’s eponymous character. Valleywag reported this morning on the presence of “Mindy, 34” on Tinder. At a glance, the casual Tinderer might be fooled into thinking they’d scored a swipe-right from Mindy Kaling herself. However, the dating profile reads: “Tiny doctor in a big city looking for love, friendship, or a donut so good it’s spiritual,” and concludes “To see more about me, tune-in to THE MINDY PROJECT this Tuesday at 9:30/8:30c on Fox.” Well, we suppose it was only a matter of time until the utopian dating app was infiltrated by ads — and worse, fake profiles.
