Charlotte Rampling’s famous leonine gaze will soon smolder on behalf of NARS Cosmetics. WWD reports that the 68-year-old actress will be the new face of the brand, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary in September. François Nars, the brand’s founder and creative director, will be shooting his muse in black-and-white, portrait-style images.
The announcement broke earlier this morning, giving news media a chance to run lots of vintage photos of Rampling in her glamorous youth. (WWD included pictures of the actress at 24 and 39.) But it will be more interesting to see how Rampling’s campaign as a sexagenarian fits into the conversations we’ve been having lately about “advanced” models. After all, according to Nars himself, she’s an “endlessly watchable mystery.”
