Male Gaze: Kevin Durant, Ladies’ Shoe Designer

Kevin Durant attends "Digital Mixer" presented by Roc Nation Sports & Airbnb at the 40/40 Club on January 30, 2014 in New York City.

NBA players who fancy themselves sneaker designers are nothing new, but Kevin Durant’s latest set of kicks for Nike are something we haven’t seen before. Today, Nike released a first look at the KD VI “Aunt Pearl” collection — a set of floral-patterned basketball sneakers, cap, and T-shirt designed by the 25-year-old Oklahoma City Thunder forward in honor of his aunt, who passed away from lung cancer in 2000. The pink-soled shoes, which are emblazoned with the basketball player’s initials, will go on sale February 27, with proceeds going to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund for research and awareness of women’s cancers.
