The Most Depressing Military Sexual Assault Scandal Yet

The top Army prosecutor for sexual assault cases has reportedly been suspended from his post, pending an investigation into allegations that he groped another Army lawyer who worked under him at a sexual assault legal conference in 2011. The revelation, in military newspaper Stars and Stripes, comes days after Army officials announced that they removed 588 troops with records of infractions (like sexual assault) from “positions of trust” (like sexual assault counselors), on Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel’s orders. And it probably trumps even the bitter irony of the three previous military sexual assault prevention officers who were fired after their own sexual misconduct was reported. Is anyone still wondering why so few report their sexual assaults?
