Enterprising sex workers have found an alternative to pricey hotel rooms and seedy by-the-hour-love motels: your apartment. The New York Post reports that some escort services are now cruising Airbnb to find homes to use as temporary brothels.
“It’s more discreet and much cheaper than The Waldorf. Hotels have doormen and cameras. They ask questions. Apartments are usually buzz-in," one anonymous sex-worker listed as reasons the average New York apartment is preferable. Plus Airbnbs often also boast well-curated bookshelves, conversation-starting knickknacks, and pour-over coffee equipment — what could be better?
While it might be horrifying for a renter to return from vacation to discover that their apartment was used for a freak fest — one account of coming home to ten used condoms and some baby wipes are truly haunting — from the standpoint of a potentially profitable start-up, this could just be the next wave of businesses to emerge from the sharing economy.
